«So [God] said, ‘l will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain’ » (Exodus 3:12).
I recently learned that sand migrates and is in continuous motion. Although it does not have feet or wings, sand makes a transatlantic journey of more than 9,000 kilometers each year. Tons of Saharan grains of sand are transported by wind and sea until they reach the Amazon rainforest, which they nourish with phosphorus and other minerals. Although they are unable to move on their own, each of these grains of sand reaches exactly where God wants it to go to fulfill its function.
We all have an idea or a mental image of what we can and can’t do. When God calls us, His mission always transcends our talents and strengths. Like a grandmother, God buys us big clothes because He knows we’re still growing. As we move forward by faith, believing in the faithfulness of the One who calls us, our courage and talents develop. «We think we know our skills and abilities, but God loves to extend us beyond what we think is possible,» Stacy Reaoch wrote in her article «If He Calls You, He Will Equip You.» Perhaps you have just discovered that you’re pregnant again when your first baby isn’t walking yet and your budget is small. Perhaps a friend suggested that you apply for a better job and you don’t feel qualified; or a family member is sick, and God is calling you to take care of him. «Whatever time call, God wants us to remember the same thing He said to Moses: He will be with us, He will equip us. If God has clearly called us to a task, He will make it possible for us to carry it out. He will give us the grace and tools necessary to fulfill it. Perhaps not perfectly, in fact, certainly not, but all He asks for is our service and for us to leave the results to Him.»
More than people with spectacular talents and great abilities, God needs women willing to be carried by the wind of the Holy Spirit (John 3:8) beyond their dreams and limitations. You don’t need wings to fly; you don’t need feet to take a trip. All you need is obedience and faith. God will take care of the rest.
Dear Lord, I follow You by faith to wherever You call me. I will do the task You assign me. Even though I’m as small as a grain of sand, You have the power to turn me into a pearl. I accept Your will with humility and obedience.
