Jesus love to be in nature and climb mountains. One day, He went up a mount with Peter, James and John to speak with them and pray. Since they were tired, they fell asleep. Suddenly they heard voices and saw Jesus was transformed: His face was glowing and His clothes shone like the sun. Beside Jesus there were two people who also shone brightly. They almost had to look away, because the light was so strong that it was blinding them.
That event is known in the Bible as the transfiguration or transformation.
Do you know who the two people with Jesus were? One was Moses whom God had resurrected and is now in heaven. And the other was prophet Elijah who hadn’t died because God took him to heaven in a chariot of fire.
Even though it seemed like an instant to Peter, James, and John, Jesus spoke with Moses and Elijah for quite some time. They probably encouraged Jesus to carry out His mission because they both knew what He would have to suffer through.
When they finished, a cloud rested on them and God’s voice was heard saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him” (you can read about it in Luke 9:35). And right then Moses and Elijah disappeared, and the brightness did too.
If Peter, James, and John had ever wondered who Jesus was, when they heard God’s voice they were convinced Jesus was the son of God.
Draw the transfiguration in Your Prayer Journal and write down what God said in Luke 9:35.
