How many times does the Bible mention the word «Zion?»
Over a hundred fifty times. There are even many hymns in the Adventist Hymnal where the word is mentioned.
Zion was actually a mount where there was a fortress in which a Canaanite tribe, the Jebusites, lived.
But one day King David conquered the fortress for the children of Israel. So people started calling it the «City of David» and then Jerusalem.
King David took the ark of the covenant to the city; that’s why the Bible says God lived on Mount Zion.
Later on, King Solomon took the ark of the covenant to the temple he built in Jerusalem, which was on Mount Zion.
As you see, Mount Zion was very important to the children of Israel because the ark of the covenant and Jerusalem’s temple were on it, therefore God was with them.
When the Bible mentions Mount Zion it refers to the city of Jerusalem and vice versa. Those who lived in Jerusalem were even called sons and daughters of Zion.
Would you like to see Jerusalem and Mount Zion? Maybe one day you’ll be able to travel to Israel and see them. But don’t worry if you can’t.
When Jesus comes, He’ll take us to live in the New Earth with Him, and do you know what other name is given to the New Earth?
It’s also called the New Jerusalem. You’ll be able to live there with Jesus forever.
Look up a hymn that mentions Zion and write down the chorus in your Prayer Journal.
