A verb is an action like running, jumping, playing, eating, etc. But in Greek, the word ”verb” is logos which also means “word.”
And what are words used for? To Communicate, right?
Well, that’s precisely what Jesus is. He’s the means of communication God has used to communicate with us human beings, and to show us His love and character.
Because of Jesus’s life, we know the way God is.
So Jesus is the Word come to life through which God speaks to us; in turn, the story of His life and teachings, which is found in the Bible, is the written Word.
The apostle john is the only Bible writer who calls Jesus that way. You can read about it in today’s verse.
To John, Jesus is the Creator; He existed before Adam and Eve,, and He created everything there is.
That’s why Jesus is both the Verb (the action), and the Word (God’s communication with us).
Have you ever seen a bridge? There are rivers that can only be crossed because there’s a bridge. Bridges join two sides, don’t they?
Well, Jesus is like a bridge that joins two parts, He’s the mediator between heaven and earth, between God and human beings.
Jesus came to earth as a human being to reveal to us how much God loves us and to draw us nearer to our Creator.
In your Prayer Journal, thank Jesus for helping us know God.
