DO YOU remember the names of the Israelite tribes?’
The Bible says there were twelve of them and they’re named after the sons of Jacob.
The twelve tribes were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, Benjamin, Dan, Naphtali, Cad, and Asher.
And do you remember who Jacob’s grandfather was?
Jacob was Isaac’s son and Abraham’s grandson.
So Jacob’s sons were Abraham’s great-grandchildren.
And all Jews are descendants of Abraham, who is considered the father of all Israelite tribes and, nowadays, the father of everyone who believes in God: Jews, Christians, and Muslims.
Jesus was also a descendant of Abraham and King David, because the Bible says Joseph and Mary were their descendants.
In addition, the apostle Paul confirms that Jesus was from the tribe of Judah—you can read it in today’s verse.
God chose the twelve Israelite tribes to show His love and commandments to neighboring nations, but they didn’t always set a good example.
Today God has chosen you to show His love to others. Are you willing to carry out that mission*
In your Prayer Journal, draw a family tree beginning with Abraham and ending with the twelve Israelite tribes, and ask Jesus to help you tell others about His love.
