THE TITLE OF TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL is an adage by Native Americans known as Dakotas, from the Sioux tribe. The saying goes:»Riding a dead horse will not take you anywhere.»
How obvious, right?
If we try to reach a place riding a dead horse, evidently, we will fail.
The only alternative is to dismount from this horse, get one that’s alive and well, and continue the journey on it. However, we don’t understand this simple conclusion when it comes to our journey in life.
Although many people realize that they are riding a dead horse, they don’t abandon it, even at the cost of their own lives. They get the idea that success is something concrete and that their life purpose is to attain it and they ride on the back of certain horses.
The «horses” may be working to exhaustion, investing alld their savings, looking for a certain type of husband who may given the image they are looking for, breaking up Christian friendships that are an excellent influence in their lives, quitting their studies or abandoning church. How is it possible that trying to reach totally worldly goals, we don’t realize that we are riding a dead horse? This is how humans are: there is no worse blind person than the one who does not want to see. Dear friend, I don’t know what comes to your mind when you apply this wise Dakotas phrase to your life.
What dead horse did you mount long ago? Do you realize that you can no longer go on fooling yourself ? Do you see where this is leading you? Are you aware that if you don’t decide, to dismount it, you will be taking the wrong path in life, the one that does not lead to eternal life?
I only have one counsel for you today. dismount the dead horse, abandon your projects where God isn’t included; dream new dreams that are approved by the Lord; distance yourself from people who lead you to a certain death without Christ; stay away from the places you go to, because you know they don’t lead to salvation.
