«This great choir sang a wonderful new song in front of the throne» (Revelation 14:3)
Revelation, that book so feared by many and studied by few, is a party of sounds. They are the last sounds in the history of this world and the first in the history to come. True, there will be unprecedented screams and roars, but there will be just the opposite as well.
In it adoration on earth and in heaven is combined, and in each chapter there are references to the importance of hearing, recognizing or comparing sounds with musical instruments, singing songs, living a majestic and incomparable adoration and reverence.
Only in chapter 5, we find the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders before the Lamb, with harps and a new song. On the other hand, the voices of billions of angels around the throne singing in a powerful chorus. And furthermore, every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth and in the sea, singing in turn.
What an incredible sight – billions of beings worshiping simultaneously! It will be a unique and unpublished concert that you cannot miss and of which you will not be a mere spectator. I invite you to read this chapter carefully and think about the lyrics of the songs that appear there.
Revelation 7: 13-17 is one of my favorite passages. I grew up listening to Gaither’s “Homecoming”, those gatherings of Christian musicians from all denominations who come together to sing, share moments of witness and spiritual edification. Gaither Vocal Band sings a song entitled “These are they”, alluding to the text “These are the ones who have come out of the great tribulation, and have washed their clothes, and have made them white in the blood of the Lamb” (Rev. 7: 14). The biblical description of the image adds to the powerful music and makes it almost impossible not to want to be there already.
Revelation 14 also makes a beautiful mention of the exclusive song of the 144,000. Find more references in one of the most musical books in the Bible and become the messenger agent charged with publicizing and awaiting this concert and lifestyle of worship for all eternity.
Research more about music in the Bible and in church history, but above all prepare your heart to sing forever.
