«I will never leave you nor forsake you.» So we may boldly say:
«The lord is my helper, i will not fear.
What can man do to me?» (hebrews 13:5, 6).
I MET MIRTA in 1998. She was and is a fighter and passionate about her children. In 1995, Nicolás, her youngest son, had started to suffer a lot of pain in his leg. After weeks of medical studies, it was confirmed that it was a disease called Perthes, which produces a necrosis in the head of the femur. The medical diagnosis indicated that Nicolás had to use a prosthesis and his chances of walking again were minimal.
Such news hit the family hard. Nicolás spent three months in bed. Mirta suffered from depression. The economic situation became critical and, under these circumstances, an Adventist friend came to pray for them. In their fragility, they verified the wonderful presence of Jesus, the Helper always attentive to his sheep. After three months in bed, Nicolás got up with the help of crutches, which would accompany him for the next three years.
The crutches were only a support for his body, but the Word of God was sustenance for his life and that of his family. Time passed, and it was time for surgery. A board of doctors met in the previous days to evaluate Nicolás’s case, and they noticed something unexpected: the bone was growing «miraculously» inside the hip without any medical explanation. Surgical intervention was not necessary. Divine intervention was powerful.
On Thursday, November 26, 1998, Nicolás and his mother went to a control… and it turned out to be the last! The following Saturday, I had the joy of baptizing Nicolás, who along with his mother, Mirta, gave himself to the Helper who never forsakes. Shortly after, the aunt and grandmother were baptized. And three years later a new miracle occurred: Javier, Nicolás’s brother, left his rock band to join the “Lord’s band”.
For eight years, until the local church got a permanent place, Mirta’s house was the temple. All the rooms of the house were also the dependencies of the church; and the Pathfinder Club worked in the courtyard.
Today Nicolás, that child destined to be prostrate before men, prostrates himself before God and runs carrying the gospel as a blessed Adventist leader and pastor, just like Javier.
Mirta, grateful to her Helper, continues to help young people at an Adventist educational institution.
