«But I have spared you for a purpose— to show you my power and to spread my fame throughout the earth» (Exodus 9:16).
Raise your head, princess, your crown is falling.» That phrase, whose author I do not know, may be interpreted in different ways. Perhaps you have read or heard it in different contexts. But there is something interesting about the way we often become discouraged, look down and forget we are children of the King of the universe. Sometimes other people make us forget our value or try to discourage us through comments or attitudes. It could be a boss, a parent, a significant other, a friend, etc.
But time and again the Bible shows us how God exalted His servants when it seemed they would be humiliated.
Pharaoh, with his heka and nekhakha across his chest, as a sign of power and total dominion (which was true in the eyes of humans) was set on forbidding God ‘s people from leaving Egypt.
But God even uses His enemies to display His power, and that was what He sent Moses to announce.
Today He is willing to do the same for us. He «He removes kings and sets up other kings. . . . He reveals deep and mysterious things» (Daniel 2:21, 22).
If an enemy wants to underestimate or stop God’s plans, if an enemy seems to be winning the battle, trust in God, in His providence, in His power and the fulfillment of His promises.
And the foxes? The «foxes» that spoil the vines, as the Shulamite mentions in Song of Solomon, will always want to prowl about and steal our joy, they will come between our intimate relationship with God and the plans He has for our lives.
If there is any oppression you don ‘t understand, be it financial, political or emotional, give it to God and ask for those people He permits to live to accomplish His will and be part of His plan … even if they don’t know about it.
God is good all the time and His name will be proclaimed throughout the earth! As He was with Moses, He will be with you and me until that glorious day.
I invite you to raise your head today, with Isaiah 60:1—3 in mind.
