“Teach me your way O Lord, I will walk In Your truth; ‘ Unite my heart to fear Your Name” (Psalm 86:11).
WALKING next to another person is sometimes hard to do. My experience in this regard reminds me of the walks I Used to take with my father; it was very challenging for me to keep up with him! It was extremely exhausting to walk by him, because his steps were long and fast; and I frequently had to ask him to slow down so I could rest and take a break. I also remember that sometimes I had to run beside him so I wouldn’t fall too far behind, especially when many people were walking along and I was afraid to lose him.
How vastly different it is when we decide to walk with Jesus! Even though He is far superior to us, He decided to “walk at our pace” in the sense that He understands our rhythms, our circumstances, and He’s patiently by our side. Jesus becomes our companion and walks next to us, at our pace; if despite this we feel tired, He offers us His arms to rest in until we are ready to keep on walking. How wonderful our Lord is!
With Jesus, we can walk calmly, because we are sure He will never leave us. Jesus will always stop along the way to wait up for us, even if we have sometimes decided to leave Him to go in search of other things that attract us. With great love, He still waits for us.
With Jesus, our steps are firm and sure. He knows the way ahead, because He Himself walked it with His own feet toward Calvary.
The path may become, in our opinion, abrupt, dangerous or wrong, but we should never doubt that at the end of the road we will be able to praise and glorify His name.
With Jesus, we must constantly walk, without giving up, always persevering; we can stop along the way to make decisions and look for road signs in prayer, but we should never leave Him.
With Jesus, we should confidently walk, because His greatest desire is to take us home safe and sound.
The Bible says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7). Faith is the key to everything.
Check the way you are going today and make sure Jesus is with you; only then will your path be light.
