WHEN I THINK that I am God’s daughter, I am flatter; pride rises within me and I want to live in such a way that I deserve this title. I want to please my heavenly Father. But this status doesn’t only make me responsible to the King, Jesus Christ; but also to the whole body of God’s people.
Ellen G. White writes, “The king upon his throne has no higher work than has the mother. The mother is queen of her household. She has in her power the molding of her children’s characters, that they may be fitted for the higher, immortal life…. Let her only realize the high character of her task, and it will inspire her with courage. Let her realize the worth of her work End put on the whole armor of God, that she may resist the temptation to conform to the world’s standard. Her work is for time and for eternity” (The Adventist Home, Ch. 38, pp. 231, 232). As you can see, your work as a mother is as significant as that of a king. You are the queen of the family
If you are a queen, it’s obvious that you will have subjects. Today’s verse says that when you take a sit on the throne of judgment, you can scatter evil with just one gaze. This illustration tells us about a task that housewives carry out every day with a broom and one we are experts at. We know that sweeping well includes sweeping dark conners, under furniture, and the most secluded spots where dirt piles up. With just one glance, we know where the broom has not swept.
God invites us to sweep the evil that subtly accumulates in the conners of family life and that we bring home on our feet (tom having walked in a polluted world. The world’s garbage comes to our home hidden in books, music, ideas and behavior styles, and we make it part of our family without realizing that it’s a source of pollution.
Spiritual and emotional hygiene are as important as physical hygiene:
tidying up and cleaning out homes. Let’s be queens with a broom in hand, and without doubting or fearing, sweep and get rid of all evil and things that have the semblance of evil. While you do so, keep the crown safely on your brow, so that when you speak, you will do so like a daughter of God, End as the queen that He has called you to be.
