Maybe you like soccer, basketball, volleyball, or running.
To play sports you have to control what you eat and what you drink, sleep well, exercise every day, and above all, say «no» to many things that harm your health.
Alt good athletes know that if they don’t control all those details they will no be able to compete and win a race game.
The Bible compares the Christian life to a race.
Therefore, the Christian is an athlete. To live each day in this world we must have self-control—that means that we have to avoid everything that can harm us.
How can we have self-control? We can do so by saying “no” to everything that is harmful. When we say “no” to smoking, to drinking alcohol, to watching TV shows that don’t help us to be better, to eating too many sweets . ..
If you learn to say ”no” and decide to take control of what you eat, drink, see, touch, hear, and say, you will be taking control of yourself.
That is having self-control. God gave you five senses to make you happy: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.
However, people who don’t have self-control don’t dominate these five senses and that’s why they lose control, that is they see, hear, eat, or touch things that are not good or healthy.
Write down in your Prayer Journalwhat things you will say “no” to so you can have self-control. Then draw a picture of each thing.
