Underline the correct answer
a. In death
b. In resurrection
c. In the law
Who were the Sadducees?
The word «Sadducee» comes from the Hebrew name «Zadok,» which means «righteous.» Zadok was the name of a high priest in King David’s time.
Sadducees were people who thought they were very righteous and important in Jesus’s days.
They held most of the seats at the Sanhedrin, which was the Jews’ Supreme Council.
Sadducees tried to get along with Roman rulers because they liked politics more than spiritual matters.
In the Bible, Sadducees are always mentioned along with Pharisees, but they’re always in opposition. Why didn’t Sadducees get along with Pharisees if they were both Jews?
Because they belonged to different political parties. In addition, they had opposing views of religion.
Pharisees and Sadducees believed in God, but Sadducees didn’t believe in the resurrection of the dead or in angels, while Pharisees did.
Sadducees only believed part of the Scriptures. They only respected the Pentateuch, that is, Moses’ five books: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
Even though Sadducees and Pharisees were always fighting, they were always in agreement when accusing Jesus and trying to trick Him to put an end to Him.
But Jesus always replied with authority and verses from the Scriptures, and they had to be quiet and leave.
Jesus doesn’t want us to be like the Pharisees or Sadducees, with a long list of rules.
Jesus wants us to love and trust Him every day.
Would you like to tell Him how much you love Him today?
Tell him in your Prayer journal.
