When the judge enters the room where the trial takes place, everyone remains quiet and stands up. Judges are highly respected people. Most are honest people who have the authority to judge and resolve any case.
Do you know why there is a book in the Bible called «Judges After Joshua died and before there were kings in Israel, God chose men and women to govern and judge the people’s problems. They were the ones who ruled in all aspects and were even like pastors, leading the people in their spiritual life.
The judges of the Bible were people who had a special relationship with God. These judges spoke with God and had the difficult mission of defending the nation from its enemies and reminding the people about the true Cod, because all of their neighbors worshiped false gods, lifeless images made by their own hands. Some of these judges were Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar, Tola, Jair, Deborah, Samson, and Gideon.
You probably know the stories of the brave Gideon and the strong Samson; however, there were many more judges, like Othniel. Do you know who Othniel was? He was the younger brother of Caleb, one of the spies who faithfully served God and was able to enter Canaan with Joshua.
The Bible says that Othniel was the one who delivered the Israelites from Cushan-Rishathaim, king of Mesopotamia. And after that victory they lived in peace for forty years. Do you think Othniel was a great judge? He must have been, because while he was the judge the people were faithful to God and no one dared to challenge Israel.
In your Prayer Journal, ask Jesus to help you be as faithful as Othniel.
