Have you ever seen a matryoshka (also called a Russian doll)?
If you don’t know what it is, you can look it up online with the help of an adult. A matryoshka is a doll made out of wood that can be opened in the middle. When you open it up, there’s another smaller doll inside, and when you open that one, there’s another smaller one inside, and so on. You can find ten or more little dolls, one inside the other.
Just like matryoshkas, we all have someone who lived before us, that is, an ancestor.
Do you know what an ancestor is? It is a more or less distant relative, like your great-grandfather, your great-great-grandfather, or your great-great great-grandfather.
Do you know who the Hebrews were? They were the descendants of Eber. You can read his genealogy in Genesis 10:21-31. There you will see that Eber’s ancestor was Shem, Noah’s oldest son!
So Eber was Noah’s descendant, and the people God chose to show the world who He was descended from him. Nowadays, Hebrews are known as Jews or Israelites.
In the Bible, Abraham is considered the ancestor of the Hebrews—their great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great . grandfather.
Abraham is the first person in the Bible to be called a Hebrew. So Abraham’s ancestor is Eber and Eber’s ancestor is Shem, Noah’s son.
It’s really interesting to know about Bible ancestors! Jesus was also a Hebrew, so whose descendant, was He? Write it down in your Prayer Journal by making a diagram. Then write your prayer for today.
