Do you like to be thanked when you do someone a favor?
I imagine you do, just like you thank others when they do something for you.
Do you thank your mom and dad for taking care of you, feeding you, buying you toys . . .? If you don’t, you should start thanking them.
Do you thank Jesus for His love and kindness toward you? Everything you are and have is thanks to Jesus. Also, He has saved you, and thanks to Him you can live eternally in the New Earth. Don’t you think that’s more than enough reason to thank Him?
Have you considered that being the King of the universe in heaven, Jesus came here as a baby in a poor family? If you think about it, you’ll realize that you should always thank Him for His love and kindness.
Do you know the story of the ten lepers found in Luke 17:11-19?
The ten lepers went to Jesus so He would heal them. Then Jesus told them to go see the priests at the temple. While they were walking toward the temple, one by one they were healed until they were all free of leprosy.
Then, one of the ten lepers went back to thank Jesus. Only one of them showed gratitude! How sad Jesus must have felt!
The other nine forgot that Jesus had healed them; they only looked for Him when they needed Him. When you thank someone, you don’t think about yourself, but instead you think about what the other person has done. Gratitude helps you not to be selfish and to remember that you depend on Jesus for everything.
In your Prayer Journal, make a list of the things for which you are grateful to Jesus.
