What do you like most, to do favors for others or to have others do them for you?
I’m sure you like to do favors, but you like even more having them done for you, right?
When you do a favor for your dad, mom, a neighbor, or a friend, you’re being kind to them. And when they do you a favor, they’re being kind to you. Maybe you deserve it because you’ve behaved well or they’re returning a favor you did for them, such as helping a friend with the homework, washing the dishes or the family car, mowing a neighbor’s lawn
However, the Bible says that when God sent Jesus to save us, He did us a great «favor,» not because we deserve it or have done Him any favors, but because He is kind.
That «favor» is known in the Bible as the grace of God. We’re saved by the grace of God, by His goodness and love toward us, even though we don’t deserve it. God doesn’t save us because we do good things. Of course not!
Do you know why? Because salvation is a gift of God’s grace.
God’s grace grants us a favor, a gift, a treasure: salvation!
You probably always expect to receive gifts on special occasions like your birthday or at Christmas, but do you like receiving gifts on an unexpected day?
Surprise! God gives you gifts every day! Not because it’s your birthday or a special occasion, but because He loves you. All the good things God gives you are FREE!
In your Prayer Journal, write how you feel when you receive a gift you weren’t expecting or didn’t deserve. Then write a prayer of gratitude to God.
