Maybe it’s at church, or in your room, or on a tree in your yard . ..
Jesus liked to go pray in Gethsemane. That place, which was so special to Jesus, was a garden located on the Mount of Olives, in Jerusalem.
Gethsemane is an Aramaic word that means ”oil press.”
As you know, olives trees are trees that produce olives. Olives are placed inside a press where they are crushed and their oil comes out.
It seems that in that place there was a press to extract olive oil and that’s why it was named that way.
The truth is that Gethsemane was Jesus’s favorite place to pray alone with His heavenly Father. He went there whenever He could and took His friends so they would be with Him. And that was the place where the temple guards sent by the high priest arrested Him.
At Gethsemane, Jesus prayed to prepare Himself to fulfill His mission: to die for us. Alone with His Father, He made the difficult decision to die for you and me.
Jesus could have gotten away and not allowed Himself to be caught, but He knew it was necessary for Him to die on the cross so we would be able to live for eternity.
Jesus let Himself be caught at Gethsemane because He loves you. Don‘t forget that.
