Actually, even though you don’t notice it, the earth’s surface where you are is constantly moving at a steady speed, and that’s why you don’t notice it.
But I’ve got to tell you that the earth rotates or spins on its axis at a speed of a thousand miles an hour. That movement of the earth is called «rotation.» The earth spins on itself every twenty-four hours, which produces day and night.
In addition, the earth orbits or revolves around the sun at a speed of sixty-seven thousand miles per hour. That movement around the sun is called «revolution,» and it takes the earth three hundred sixty-five days to revolve around the sun, which produces years and seasons.
So you’re constantly moving by spinning around the sun and rotating, even when you’re sleeping in bed!
Maybe you would understand it better if you imagine you’re in a car or plane, if it’s always traveling at the same speed, you barely feel you’re moving, right? However, if the driver steps on the break or accelerator, then you feel it. If the earth suddenly stopped, you would fly off into space.
How good it was of our Creator to make the earth orbit in space at the same speed, without accelerating or stopping! Thanks to that .intelligent design, you can enjoy day and night, and all the seasons there are in a year: spring, summer, fall, and winter.
