«Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.
He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday» (Psalm 37:5, 6).
MY MOTHER HAS BEEN RESTING in her grave for a decade now, awaiting the resurrection. Living without her physical presence has been difficult. However, I realize that almost every day I feel her presence through her teachings, illustrations, and phrases, which have become a family legacy.
My mother was a simple woman. Most of her education was received in the school of life. As a child, she faced being an orphan, taking on the role of a mother to her younger siblings. She formed her own family at the fragile age of eighteen. She was a loving mother and a faithful wife; and today, although she is no longer alive, the echo of her voice resonates in my heart, helping me to live wisely.
What we say and do leaves indelible footprints. With every step we take we write our history and affect the history of others. Everything we touch, every word uttered, every look, every action for or against someone leaves a mark. The same goes for omissions, what we could have said and done but we didn’t do or say.
Let us be cautious. Our actions, however insignificant, will leave a mark in someone’s life, for the positive or negative. Think of someone who at some point in your life supported you, perhaps with a word, a look, or a gesture, and what it meant and still means to you. «Every person who passes through our lives is unique. They always leave a little of themselves, and take a little bit from us. There will be those who take a lot, but there will be none who leave us nothing» (Jorge Luis Borges).
Dear friend, be aware of this great responsibility and walk as the Lord wants you to do it. Think about your family members and the people you will meet as you go throughout the day. What kind of a footprint will you leave in their lives?
You are not alone. The Lords promise says, «Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday» (Psalm 37:3—6).
