«But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent» (2 Corinthians 11:3).
I was at a youth retreat in a beautiful park, and we had all spread out to pray. I went into a little forest, going further and further away. I was looking for a peaceful spot in which to sit… and there I saw it. Slowly and silently it slithered among some branches, and when I saw its colors I felt a panic I had rarely ever experienced.
I started desperately running in the opposite direction, although I think it never even saw me. But I ran. I ran feeling conscious, like never before, that many times Satan is lurking and silently slithering that way to attack us and make us fall.
I don’t know if that snake was poisonous or if it would’ve actually harmed me, but I do know my worst enemy’s character. He’s always wanting to make us fall, always trying to ruin our lives. And many times he does it in a sneaky, silent way.
I ran until I reached the chair where I had been sitting during the sermon. I sat down, grabbed my Bible and prayed thanking God, not so much because He had saved me from a possible bite, but because in those seconds of running He had shown me with how much zeal I had to try to run away as quickly as possible from the evil that’s constantly lurking.
Many times we forget that apparently invisible battle.
Surely the original plan wasn’t for us to be running in a panic, but ever since evil entered, the battle is inevitable. Today is a special day to receive the peace God wants to give us, to remember that even though we’re constantly confronting our enemy, and today is no exception, we’ll find God to be our faithful friend.
What things do you have to flee from today? What thoughts is the enemy misdirecting? Ask God for strength for your commitment to Him to remain firm.
Just as it happened to Eve, you may be nearing enemy territory and exposing yourself for the devil to try his confusing tricks on you and win a small battle he should in no way win.
That’s why, begin this day by placing yourself in God ‘s hands, and pray for three temptations in particular, so you ‘Il be able to overcome them.
