“The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit”
SOMEONE ONCE SAID that «you can’t turn the clock back, but you can wind it up again.»This wonderful phrase has a lot to do with discouragement produced by a situation we can’t undo and the need to look to the future, leaving the past behind.
Discouragement is a paralyzing emotional state; that drains out our energy and with sickening subtlety whispers to us that nothing is worthwhile, especially when we have invested so much time and effortin a task just to see that at the end it was unsuccessful. At some point in our lives, we will all go through times of discouragement, this is normal; the important thing isn’t to remain in that state for so long that it leads us to lose our hope and enter into a deep sorrow and depression. Discouragement anesthetizes our soul.
It’s encouraging to remember the Proverb writers’ words when he said, “For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again” (Proverbs 24:16). If you have invested years of your life trying to be a woman after God’s heart and Satan has tricked you, don’t give up. Persevere with sincere humility and He will lift you up, no matter how far you have fallen and despite what others might think of you. Don’t settle for being a “rug” where some may wipe their feet; remember your origin and your purpose.
While sitting in the shade of a tree, my young friend told me her, story. She had been born in a Christian home and had been taught eternal principles. After becoming a teenager, she was induced to have sexual relations with someone that she thought loved her. Discouraged and disheartened, she ended up being alone, struggling with her guilt and self-loathing, thinking that God also despised her. At that time, sent by her mother to a young ladies’ retreat, she felt inadequate, unworthy and powerless for not being able to go back in time.
You will never be a lost case to God; on the contrary, you are a case that has been won, because He already paid the price for your ransom on the cross of Calvary. It’s hard to get back up if you try to do it alone, but lift your hand in faith and cling to God’s arm with strength and a firm grip¡ then healing will come and the crooked path trill be erased and replaced by the path that will lead you to the cross and forgiveness.
