“And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you,
for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’
Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities,
that the power of Christ may rest upon me”
(2 Corinthians 12:9).
TODAY I WITNESSED a truly heartwarming scene. I went to the bank to pay some bills and while waiting in line for my turn, I sawa father with his young son about three years old. There were some bags with groceries at their feet, which me me assume that they had gone shopping for groceries before coming to the bank.
After finishing his transaction, the father got up and began gathering the bags. When the little boy saw his father’s efforts, he wrapped his hands around one of the heaviest bags. His father smiled, figured the bag’s weight and with loving care, gave the boy the smallest bag. The boy went off happily with his bag, because He was helping his father.
Then, he innocently looked up at him and asked, “Daddy, I’m helping you carry the heaviest bag, right?»
I smiled as his father nodded.
Then, I unavoidable thought of my heavenly Father and remembered His wonderful promise, where He assures us He will never give us more than what we can endure. The human father, standing before me, very wisely didn’t keep his son from carrying a load, although he gave him one according to his abilities. The same happens with us and our heavenly Father. In times of suffering and pain, problems and hardships, we ask God to take them away from us; many times it doesn’t happen and our faith wavers, but His promise remains unaltered. God will never leave us; He is faithful to His promise and wants us to depend on His presence when we’re distressed.
The boy I saw at the bank that morning was able to put his ability to carry weight to the test, under his father’s loving gaze, and he seemed pleased with himself.
In the midst of trials, we can also experience the power of God, who sympathizes with our weaknesses and sustains us with tremendous love and care.
We can never be stronger in Christ than when we feel the weakest.
Because His love is all we need; His power is made perfect in our weakness.
