«For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus» (l Timothy 2:5).
MEDIATOR IS A SPOKESPERSON, an arbitrator, an intermediary, a third party acting between two parties who are in dispute to find a reconciliation or agreement. Thus, Paul affirms that Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and man. And that is certainly so, because He represents God before men and men before God in order to save humanity.
It requires having an intimate relationship with both parties and, in order to do that, He must possess the nature and attributes of both; that is, divinity and humanity. Jesus Christ is the only One who can fulfill this unique role: as God, He can rightfully represent the Deity; as a man, He can minister compassionately on your behalf.
God does not need a mediator. We are the ones who need it. Why? Because there are problems, differences, division, enmities, strife and rebellion. The two sides must be willing to be reconciled. God is always ready, and He himself provided the rescue, the mediator, and reconciliation.
Christ came to reveal, show. vindicate, and glorify the Father and at the same time seek, save, forgive, reconcile, and restore the sinner. A referee is not needed if there is only one team. And God’s team is already present. All that is necessary is for a sinner to show up at the match.
Time is ending:
So Christ, at the close of His work as mediator, will appear, «without sin unto salvation» . . . to bless His waiting people with eternal life . . . Thus the great plan of redemption will reach its accomplishment in the final eradication of sin and the deliverance of all who have been willing to renounce evil (Christ in His Sanctuary, p. 181).
If among the Venice canals tourists wants to reach St. Mark’s Cathedral, they must follow the red brick path. We walk like strangers among the canals of sin in this world. Our goal is not to be a tourist in Venice, but in the vast universe of God. Our dream is not to visit St. Mark’s Cathedral, but to dwell with God and His throne.
There is only one way, one access, one mediator between God and men: Jesus Christ, who is God and man. Today, follow the line of red bricks painted by His own blood.
