Do you think your parents are proud of you when you do well on an exam or a sports competition?
Of course they are!
Do you think that kind of pride is a bad thing? Of course not! Taking pride in the achievements of others is a good thing.
However, there is another kind of pride that the Bible says God hates because it prevents us from approaching Him.
Do you know what that kind of pride is* it’s about arrogance, that is, when we feel superior to others, even superior to God.
This kind of pride separates us from God. The prideful believe that they know everything and don’t need God.
Pride is the opposite of humility and prevents us from accepting that we have misbehaved and asking for forgiveness.
In the Bible there are many characters who believed that they were superior to others and wanted to be like God.
For example, there were Haman, Nebuchadnezzar, Naaman, and many others. You can find their stories in the Bible.
But do you remember who was proud first? His name was Lucifer. He was the most important angel in heaven.
God loved him very much, but one day he wanted to be equal to God.
He felt superior to his Creator and although he knew that his attitude was wrong, he did not repent, but made other angels’ rebel against Jesus, too, and has made many people continue rejecting God as their personal Savior.
This saddens God a lot, because He’s our Creator and wants us all to live eternally with Him.
However, He can’t decide for His children. Only you can decide not to be proud and to accept Jesus.
