If you think you’re a good friend, I invite you to meet the Philippians. Who were the Philippians?
Philippians were people who lived in an important Roman city called Philippi.
That city no longer exists, but there is a municipality close to the ruins, called Filippoi, in Greece.
You can look it up on a world map or online with the help of an adult.
Why are the Philippians mentioned in the Bible? That’s because there was a church there that was made up of important people from the city of Philippi.
The first Christians in that city were Lydia, a seller of purple cloth, and the jail chief.
Both of them got to know Jesus thanks to the apostle Paul.
Lydia and the jail chief were Paul’s friends, and when he needed help they were always willing to help him.
While Paul was imprisoned in Rome, they sent him money, clothes, or whatever he needed, and they always encouraged him to continue preaching about Jesus.
The Philippians were very good and generous friends. They were grateful to Paul for having helped them to get to know Jesus.
And Paul wrote the Letter to the Philippians to thank them for their love and gifts.
Do you have a friend who always helps you when you need it?
Write him or her a letter of gratitude like Paul wrote to his Philippian friends.
Then write in your Prayer Journal asking Jesus to help you to always be grateful.
