«Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?» (Exodus 15:11).
Can you imagine that number of people singing? There were almost 1,000,000 people who burst into a song of joy.
Many more than we hear in a raucous way in stadiums. They had gone from fear to freedom, and suddenly, all over the desert, the sea, and the mountains, this echo resounded. It must have been an amazing event.
We do not know if such a large group of people in human history joined again to sing simultaneously in the same place. Probably not.
This song represented victory over the enemy and also the final victory of God’s people. John said, «And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God. They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb» (Revelation 15:2, 3).
Ellen White also said that this hymn of thanksgiving is one of the most sublime that people could know.
We do not know its melody yet, but its message has to be recorded in our memories and on our tongues.
«The history of the wilderness life of Israel was chronicled for the benefit of the Israel of God to the close of time. The record of God’s dealings with the wanderers of the desert in all their marchings to and from, in their exposure to hunger, thirst, and weariness, and in the striking manifestations of His power for their relief, is fraught with warning and instruction for His people in all ages…God would have His people in these days review with a humble heart and teachable spirit the trials through which ancient Israel passed, that they may be instructed in their preparation for the heavenly Canaan» (Patriarchs and Prophets, ch. 26, p. 293).
Soon, very soon, we will reach the heavenly Canaan, and from our lips there will be no other answer than that of praise and joining in this song. Read Exodus 15:1—18 to familiarize yourself with the words.
