“Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:19).
One afternoon, I went out to colporteur in a part of my area that 1 had been avoiding: the industrial district. The only thing there was used machinery; huge, empty sheds; and fences that separated the
properties of the different factories. It was difficult for me to figure out how I would get in there with all the signs that prohibited entrance and without an entrance for hundreds of yards. I was walking along the road and walking alone in that place was not the best idea. I prayed to know what do when I saw Damian, a very kind man I had met the day before. He, I think providentially, showed me where to enter.
When I arrived, I explained what I was doing and, to my surprise, I was welcomed with great joy. They thought that it was the perfect opportunity to give some health instruction to the employees who were unemployed at the time.
We went into a small area. There were fifteen men who rarely spent time caring for their health and worked under a lot of pressure and stress. They asked me about several topics and were delighted with the materials. They ordered several sets and, although I was very grateful to God for everything He was giving me, I felt that I had to do something more for them.
I began to talk to them about the importance they had as men in society and in their families. I opened my heart to them and mentioned that, on that occasion, I was not only asking that they care for their physical health, but also their spiritual and social health.
In their eyes, I saw an interest I had not seen before. Many of them were parents. Many were divorced and suffered the consequences of the bad choices they had made in their riotous lifestyle. I noticed that the Holy Spirit was working in their hearts. I told them that I did not believe in the «coincidence» of that meeting, and several of them asked me to visit their homes and pray for their families.
When I visited one of them a second time, he said, «I know that what you told us and what you sold us were very good and they are going to do us a lot of good.»
There are no difficult terrains for God. Where only a large, iron frame and a wasteland could be seen, there were many hearts that had to be reached by the gospel.
