“Beloved I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” (3 John 2).
“Come in, come in! I know who you are!” said Alicia as soon as she opened the door. As she showed us into the living room, I noticed the Christmas tree and saw that it had a number of cards hanging on it.
Alicia nodded toward it and said, “Every year the colporteurs who were here send us Christmas cards. What wonderful young people they are!” I thought gratefully about how important the impression that we leave is for the people we meet.
Alicia called in her husband and they sat down with us. We talked about several things, and then they told me that their greatest concern at that time was for their daughter, Romina, or «Romi» as they lovingly called her. She was suffering from gastric ulcers. She had always had digestive problems, but now things were getting worse. It was hard for her to eat; she was in a lot of pain; she had lost an alarming amount of weight, and they didn’t know what to do for her. They asked me if there was anything 1 could recommend for them to try.
The family had already purchased Dr. Pamplona-Roger’s book TheMedicinalPower of Foods, but when I showed them El poder medicinal de los jugos(The Medicinal Power of Juices) and the section in it on the digestive system, they decided at once to purchase the book. I explained to them how to make some of the easy recipes and they saw that it would really be simple to pre- pare them. We prayed together and I left.
I continued to pray for this family and when I went to their home to collect the second installment for the book Alicia met me with a radiant smile, saying that she had something to tell me.
“For two weeks we made the juices that you recommended to us every day, and Romi got well! Her doctors couldn’t believe their eyes! They asked us what had happened, what we had done, because she had been suffering from several large ulcers and now the stomach lining was healthy.”
The books we place in homes as colporteurs are full of good information that families need, but above all else, they are part of God’s plan to take healing to people everywhere. This family was not only suffering from the physical illness of their daughter; they were also grieving for the recent loss of loved ones. They hungered for our prayers, joining in with great faith, in search of physical and spiritual healing.
Simple recommendations and practical, tasty recipes can help us take better care of our body, the temple for the God’s Spirit. I encourage you to look for some simple ways to improve your own health this week. God wants us to have abundant health and an abundant life.
