b. Jesus’s entrance into the Most Holy Place as priest
c. Both previous answers are correct
Have you ever anxiously waited for a relative or a friend you haven’t seen in a long time to arrive at your house? Can you imagine if that day came and nobody showed up?
That’s precisely what happened to the Millerites.
For over twenty years, William Miller and his followers, the Millerites, had been announcing that Jesus would return to Earth on a specific date: October 22, 1844, but Jesus didn’t come, and the world didn’t end.
Many children had stopped attending school and their parents had sold everything they had so they could announce Jesus’s return, but they waited until midnight and nothing happened. That’s why the Millerites were sad, disappointed, let down, and crying non-stop. That moment is called the Great Disappointment.
What had happened? Had they made a mistake with the date?
Jesus said that «nobody knows the day or the hour of His coming, except for His Father in heaven,» so they made a mistake in saying that Jesus would come on that date. After that Great Disappointment, some people went on setting dates, and all they got were more disappointments. But others kept on studying the Bible and realized that something had happened on that date, although it wasn’t the coming of Jesus.
What happened on October 22, 1844? Jesus didn’t come to Earth, but instead He entered into the Most Holy Place in the sanctuary in heaven to fulfill His priestly mission. That mission is to intercede before His heavenly Father for you and those who believe in Him at the judgment that began in heaven in 1844. So if you make a mistake and ask for forgiveness, Jesus pays for your guilt and it’s as if you had never made that mistake.
In your Prayer Journal, write a prayer of gratitude to Jesus for His work as priest in the heavenly sanctuary.9
