«Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them» (Colossians 3: 18, 19).
IN MARRIAGE, each spouse must find personal growth and development through the journey of the covenant they have sealed before the Lord. Marriage must provide daily, and in all its stages, experiences that meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs of each of the spouses.
The marriage relationship evolves alongside the named couple; changes are subject to circumstances, beliefs, and personal and family values. The marital cycle takes place in stages, each has problems and challenges that test the love between husband and wife. Of course, although it involves difficulties, it also has its good things. The expectation of the honeymoon and living in love forever is not a utopia; when this becomes possible, each stage resembles a new dawn, offering enriching experiences to the relationship and the spouses.
Its patience, trust, empathy, tolerance, and mutual support that will give consistency and strength to the marriage. In the face of disagreement there are no losers or winners; prudence and the pursuit of peace and harmony must prevail. God, who has created the institution of marriage, knows how to provide us with what we need if, together in prayer, we ask for His help.
The experiences of the early years have a romantic tinge that, although some claim to be lost over time, does not have to be so; it can remain forever, even if its expressed differently.
When children arrive, the home is illuminated with a new light that must be lived intensely. Parents who sport gray hair will have to deal with the teenager without forgetting that the ones who arrived first were the spouses, who have the need to be cared for in the first place.
Even if the children leave home to take care of themselves, the nest will never be empty if we fill it with memories, experiences, images, tastes, and gratifying smells; all these things can make possible for spouses to have a new dawn here on earth every day and allow them to be witnesses of the eternal dawn in the kingdom of heaven with our Lord Jesus.
