Do you like superhero shields?
You probably know about Captain America’s shield, but have you ever seen the armor of a Roman soldier?
In the times of Jesus, all children knew well what the Roman soldiers wore. Roman soldiers used a wooden or bronze shield and an iron or steel breastplate, to protect their body both in the front and the back. They also put on a belt to keep their clothes close to their body and enable them to run more easily. Additionally, they wore a metal helmet to protect their head, and carried a sword.
In the letter the apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesians, he tells us to protect ourselves from the deceptions of evil with the armor of God. Of course,
to protect ourselves from Satan, we can’t use Captain America’s shield or the armor of a Roman soldier—we have to put on the armor of God.
Do you know what the armor of God is?
The armor of God is not meant for fighting, but for protecting you, because the Bible says that it is Ged who will fight for you against evil. All you have to do is trust Him.
Faith and trust in Him are the shield that God gives you to protect you from evil. The salvation that Jesus gives you is the helmet. The armor is the truth and justice with which Jesus defends you when Satan accuses you of something. And the Bible is the only weapon you need to protect yourself when someone tells a lie to deceive you.
If you wear God’s armor, you will be able to distinguish between what is right and what is wrong, and Satan will never be able to deceive you.
Draw a picture of the armor of a Roman soldier in your Prayer Journal and then use arrows to point out the armor of God.
Write a prayer to Jesus, asking Him to give you all of His armor to protect you from evil.
