«That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height»
(Ephesians 3:17, 18).
I HAVE MET some women who feel uncomfortable being women. Either because of their upbringing or culture, they believe that being feminine is inferior to being masculine. They live in a constant struggle against themselves, with a sense of indignity that overshadows their existence. They find it difficult to discover the beauty found in being a woman and, therefore, to live out their feminine qualities. They reduce their existence to pure survival, without recognizing all the potential that God has placed in them by creating them female.
If this is your experience, dear friend, remember: nothing in your nature is a mistake. Working from this premise you can look with faith and confidence at your potential, move toward your goals, and fulfill Gods plans for you. It’s time for you to contribute your two cents’ worth toward a better world; which you can do by means of your womanly essence. Your personal worth must be sustained by the love of God, not by the approval of others. or incorrect social concepts that you may have acquired as a little girl. Knowing that God loves you is essential when your environment wants to make you believe that you’re worthless.
To love and respect yourself is to love Gods creation; belittling yourself is belittling the gifts He gave you. To enjoy the woman, you are is to enjoy God in your life. When your self-love translates into gratitude to the Lord, it’s not egocentrism or vainglory, its simply recognizing yourself as Gods daughter. Our creation as women had no more reason to be than God’s love. Understanding this is a principle of health, not only spiritually, but also emotionally and relationally.
Love yourself through the love of God; that will make you humble and warm hearted; it will empower you to love others. As Patrice Baker says, «First learn to love yourself and accept yourself unconditionally. Then you can truly love and accept someone else.» When you feel insecure, remember:
God’s love is eternal.
His love for you goes beyond your understanding.
He will always love you unconditionally.
You can only love others by experiencing God’s love.
Hold on to His promise: «Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved you» (Isaiah 43:4).
