«My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body» (Proverbs 4:20-22).
For several years the end of books and reading has been predicted, as well as the implementation of the new masters of social hegemony: image and sound. The advent of the Internet has advanced the way information circulates throughout the planet; it has also created new methods of studying the Bible, such as the famous videos and religious websites that flood cyberspace. The problem is that many people replace reading the Bible with those methods, arguing the lack of time and the comfort of receiving all their spiritual food already chewed and in their mouth. The human mind needs to be challenged by biblical approaches and led to timely responses through the direction of the Holy Spirit.
But in the era of the spectacular, many young people substitute a serious, deep, and attentive study of the Sacred Scriptures for a Christian music album. It seems as if sentiment is shifting to thought, reaction to action; and that is delicate, be. cause those things do not make true worshipers.
Nothing can replace the Bible. Music is a fundamental element of worship because it prepares the mind to receive the bread from heaven, but it should not re. place the study of the Scriptures. On the other hand, the study of the Bible is indispensable in preparing ourselves for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
«The Bible contains all that is needful for the saving of the soul, and at the same time it is adapted to strengthen and discipline the mind…. The Bible gives the true seeker an advanced mental drill; he comes from the contemplation of divine things with his faculties enriched. Self is humbled, while God and His truth are exalted»— Counsels to Parents, Teachers, and Students, sec. 12, p. 448.
Today it is time to study the Scriptures, practice praying, proclaim to others that Jesus is coming, and accompany our worship services with music that edifies our lives and prepares us to make decisions relevant to the kingdom of heaven.
Ask the Lord today to help you organize your time in the best way possible in order to have an encounter with Him through the study of the Bible.
