«And you, son of man, thus says the Lord God to the land of Israel: An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land’” (Ezekiel 7:2).
The divine plan of redemption has envisaged the end of the world of sin since the very entrance of evil in Eden. Time has passed, but on the clock of the universe everything has its time, and in due course, the end will come. Even if the day and hour are known only by God (Matt. 24:36), the Lord Jesus taught us to identify the signs that precede His coming. «And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven» (Luke 21:11). «When you see these things happening, know that it is near at the doors!» (Mark 13:29). Other passages of the Scriptures describe the signs that take place in nature, religion and society (2 Tim. 3:1-4).
The majority of the signs described have gradually taken place in the last decades; their increase is proportional not only to climate change, but also to mankind’s rejection of the commandments of God. While the world underestimates the divine precepts, it pushes the heavenly blessings away from the earth, and is withdrawn from its protective cycle. Even so, alongside calamities, mercy has also been displayed, so is still possible to seek God’s protection.
The Book of Revelation relates that toward the end of mankind’s history, the cups of the wrath of God will be spilt over a rebellious world which continuously despises the Savior and His commandments. When this happens, there will be a people in particular who will be protected. They are the ones who have the seal of God on their foreheads (Rev. 7:3; 9:4); the are the ones who keep the commandments and have the testimony of Jesus Christ Rev. 12:17). They are the same who suffer and cry over all the abominations taking place within the church and are ready to call sin by its right name (Ezek. 9:4).
The end has come and it is approaching steadily. Patriarchs, prophets and apostles, to whom breathtaking scenes of the end have been revealed, yearned to witness their fulfillment. Those of us who live in this special moment of history can life our heads and look up with confidence, knowing that our redemption is near (Luke 21:28). We can wait on heaven’s protection by placing ourselves under its protective circle.
