As the Scripture says: «How beautiful is the arrival of those who bring good news!» Romans 10:15.
A simple man from Panama, surnamed Atencio, had moved to Costa Rica to study at the university. Although he had a goal of obtaining a college degree, that was not really his life goal. He lived fully committed to the things of God; he never wasted time. Always smiling, with a slow voice and, above all, humble, Atencio was a great missionary.
One day, he stopped in front of a mattress store and decided to go inside to apply for a job. The owner allowed him to work for him, not knowing that Atencio not only wanted to receive a salary, but also to bring this man and his family to the knowledge of God. He wanted to evangelize him for Jesus and he did. Every day, at the end of his workday, Atencio went to his boss’s house to tell him about Christ. Little by little, he gained the affection of the family thanks to his sincere friendship and a genuine interest in talking about the Bible. Finally, the whole family gave their lives to Christ through baptism.
Over time, Atencio returned to dedicating himself to his true trade, which is that of a baker. Ridden every day on a simple bicycle, he distributed not only physical bread, but also spiritual bread. For this reason, his former head of the mattress factory gave him a car and an oven. After a while, Atencio went to visit him to say:
-Thanks for the car you gave me, but I can’t accept it. When riding a bicycle, people understand that I am humble and they listen to me when I tell them about Jesus. But if I go by car, I don’t get that answer, I can’t find someone to talk to about Jesus. That is why I prefer to go by bicycle, to be able to continue with God’s work
How beautiful the feet of Atencio, who go from here to there carrying the good news of salvation in Christ Jesus! What about your feet? What about the reasons why you make the decisions you make? Is preaching the gospel a priority in your life? Is the salvation of souls something you consider when dressing, socializing, or spending your money, for example?
What is it that moves you to action? I encourage you to make room in your life to bring the good news of salvation to others.
