«For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear Of evil» (Proverbs 1:32, 33).
On several occasions, Jesus said that life is the fruit of the decisions we make. Actually, we are where we are because of the decisions we have made. We can blame others for our own unhappiness or discomfort, but it is us who have chosen to assume such attitudes.
As for the decisions we make, Jesus recommended the following: «Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find W’ (Matthew 7:13, 14). Which door are you going through? The wide door is that of irresponsibility, lack of discipline, deceit, laziness, pleasure seeking, vices, conformity, unbelief, inferiority complexes. That road is so easy! Most young people follow it and have a disastrous end. But your great privilege is that the decision is in your hands! You can also choose the other path!
Certainly, the narrow door demands greater effort, discipline, responsibility, perseverance, integrity. And even though success is guaranteed for those who follow this path, very few opt for it! Instead, they try to find shortcuts that make things easier, risking losing the course of their lives.
It is you who decides what you’ll do with your life. Everyone makes this decision, either consciously or unconsciously. The interesting thing is that if you do not decide to do it, another will do it for you, and you’ll simply be part of the mass that obeys the patterns that a consumer society dictates. And that is an insult to the sacrifice of Jesus, who died for you to use and enjoy the freedom that He gained for you on the cross of Calvary.
What course are you going to give your life? Success depends on the choices you make when you’re young. Don’t be afraid to choose the path of effort and work It is the safest way to go far.
Today thank God for the blessed gift of freedom and decide to follow the narrowest path hand in hand with Jesus. With Him by your side, you will successfully face every challenge that life brings you.
