«He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds» (Psalm 147:3).
SIX YEARS AGO, Valeria underwent a simple appendicitis operation. Up until that time, her health had been exceptional, and nothing indicated that it would not be so afterwards. However, during the operation there were complications that affected her daily life: hormonal disorders, constant headaches, and fainting episodes.
At first, Valeria tried not to pay too much attention to those symptoms, because she reasoned: «I can’t stop my life over a headache.» Thus, she decided to adapt to living with the inconvenience and to get on with her routine. Even though she took medicines, they didn’t seem to have any effect. That’s how she lived for four years, during which sleeping at night was an ordeal. And every day of those four years, her prayers, together with those of her parents, friends, and church members, ascended to heaven every day. Valeria’s health became a reason for prayer for that group of people. Although she felt tired, dejected, and defeated, she ended each prayer by giving thanks to the Lord, confident in His future intervention.
And the Lord intervened to bind up her wounds. On a Sabbath morning, when she was in church, Valeria heard a naturopathic doctor preach, no doubt sent by God to help her. Valeria decided to ask him a question, and after following the counsels and instructions of that Spirit-filled man, all her symptoms of illness disappeared completely. From then until today, Valeria enjoys not only physical health, but also emotional health. Her discouragement vanished altogether and her trust in God has increased as never before.
My friend, that is how our good God is. «He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds» (Psalm 147:3). In this image that the Bible presents of our God, we can almost perceive Him as a doctor—as someone who knows perfectly the functioning of our nature and provides us with delicate care because he who knows what he is doing. So if today you are faced with discouragement, sickness, or difficult trials, trust that God knows what He is doing: He is the great Physician. He can heal your heart, that is, your whole being: your emotions, your thoughts, your intentions, your desires and He knows how to treat your wounds so that they heal well. Put yourself in His hands.
