I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart; before the ‘gods’ I will sing your praise» (Psalm 138:1).
Blondel wasn’t rich or powerful or a member of nobility. He had only one talent, but that was enough to save a king.
Richard the Lion-Hearted, king of England, was returning from a crusade to save Jerusalem from the Muslims. On the way the king’s boat wrecked in a storm. «I’m walking the rest of the way,» he announced, and started off across Europe dressed as a poor man so his enemies wouldn’t recognize and capture him.
When he failed to arrive in England, people got worried. «He’s dead,» some lamented. Others moaned that he had been kidnapped. That’s when Blondel decided to take action. He crept across the English Channel and began going from castle to castle, fortress to fortress, doing the one thing he did best—sing. After positioning himself near an open window, he sang all the songs he knew the king liked, hoping that if the monarch heard, he’d respond.
One day, from behind the prison walls of a distant fortress, he heard a man begin to hum along with him.
Then happy singing broke forth. Returning to England, Blondel joyfully announced, «I’ve found our king!» The people raised the necessary ransom and, with joy and celebration, bought back their monarch from his kidnappers.
Jesus left heaven to find you. Today He sings at the walls of your heart because He wants to buy you back from the devil. Why not sing your answer right now?
