A: Have you ever known somebody who just keeps on harping about something you did wrong to them, or that they did wrong to themselves or others? Maybe you’ve known people who had a bad experience so devastating that they were never quite able to get over it. Somehow, they just can’t forget or stop talking about it, no matter how many years ago it happened.
How does a person bury the past once and for all? It begins with making a commitment to start a new life, with new thoughts, new feelings, and a new determination to give our problems to God.
Ellen White once told her husband that he needed to bury the past. Telling him that he spent too much time dwelling on the wrongs that people had done to him, she counseled him to let God heal his wounded spirit and to refuse to talk or write about the past wrongs. We think that’s good counsel for us today.
Is something from the past bothering you? Take it to the Lord in prayer. He will forgive every sin and heal every wound. All you have to do is ask.
