«The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, but the mouth of fools pours forth foolishness» (Proverbs 15:2).
Angeles Mastretta is a successful Mexican writer. I met her in Colombia during an interesting colloquium. On that occasion, someone asked her how to promote reading among young people. She replied: «A teacher who is passionate about books can captivate their students.» I listened to her with great emotion. nodding my head.
Nothing can overcome the passion of someone who strives to teach another. Nor does it matter what kind of learning it is, if there is passion and enthusiasm to learn, a young person can go as far as they wish. Computers and technological advances in education are not as necessary here as is a teacher’s attitude. Someone can teach in a classroom with the latest in technology, and yet destroy in young people the desire to learn mathematics, literature, language, or history. In turn, there are teachers who, despite working in extremely adverse environments and in deplorable conditions, manage to excite their students in the different fields of knowledge.
During my journey through basic (high school) education, one of my math teachers managed to make their class a very attractive learning environment After having suffered with this subject, with a couple of professors who were experts in complicating one of the most interesting areas of knowledge, such as mathematics, there finally came someone who knew how to introduce us to this wonderful world. My teacher’s attitude encouraged several young people to follow the path of science, a fundamental knowledge for any society.
I think that someone who doesn’t have a passion for teaching should not serve as a teacher. In reality, the way one teaches reveals character. A good teacher will make math, literature, or science a delight for their students. A seed sown in a young person’s heart will always bear fruit, even if not at this time, but in the future.
Do you know a teacher who is passionate about teaching? Take advantage of that! Also, do not forget to correspond to the interest they put into their work and give them the best that you can do. We all have to teach another at some point in life, you’ll even have to do it when you have kids. Therefore, it is important to remember that the attitude you take when it comes to teaching will reveal your character.
