«A lazy man buries his hand in the bowl, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again» (Proverbs 19:24).
On June 20, 2015, Maria Nelly Murillo and her five-month-old son boarded a small plane in Nuquf, Colombia; however, twenty minutes after takeoff, the aircraft vanished from radar. Hours later the accident was confirmed. A helicopter sighted the plane in the midst of a thick jungle. The pilot had died, but Mary and her son, the only passengers, had managed to survive. The woman spent five days in the middle of the jungle eating coconuts and drinking water from the stream until she was found by the rescue teams, unable to raise her arms. Mary had suffered severe injuries and burns in the accident; in addition, she had had to face the dangers of the jungle to protect and feed her son. But she had done it! The rescuers could not believe what had happened. She and her baby received medical care and recovered in the following days.
Few people realize the enormous blessings they have around them and the minimal conditions demanded of them to survive. But still, many claims that life is a burden and use all sorts of pretexts to not strive. Of course, they are not in the midst of a jungle without food and at the mercy of various dangers, but they are defeated by the slightest adversity that is presented to them. Moreover, they are very good at finding all kinds of culprits to blame for their unfortunate situation. What do they need in order to strive? How can they understand how much they could accomplish if they just put a little more effort into everything they do?
Your passage through this world is very brief. You cannot afford to give laziness a place in your life because it will end your best opportunities. In one of his books, Solomon said: «Because of laziness the building decays, and through idleness of hands the house leaks» (Ecclesiastes 10:18). I will never forget what a brilliant businessman told me about how he had achieved success in his student and professional life: «l was an average boy with no great intellectual advantages. But very driven and disciplined.»
Do you see? You, too, can be that ordinary person, but very disciplined in your daily tasks.
Today ask the Lord to help you take on new life projects and to be excited about them.
