A CHURCH MEMBER who was going through a difficult situation in her life decided one day to call the pastor of her church to ask him to visit her and pray for her. This woman felt in her heart that she needed the immediate prayers of the pastor. As soon as the minister entered through the door of the house, she said to him: «Pastor, pray for me.»
«Sister,» he replied to her in a slow and deliberate voice, «we need to read the Bible first, before we pray.»
«Don’t worry, Pastor. I always read my Bible,» she said, «but what I need urgently now is for you to pray for me and for the problem I have.»
The pastor insisted that she bring her Bible to hear first the voice of God through His Word; then they would have that prayer that was so longed for. When she finally accepted the pastor’s suggested order of things and went to find her Bible, an exclamation from the bedroom could be heard in the living room: «My glasses! Thank you, Lord. I have been looking for them for two months.»
That woman’s glasses were inside her Bible and it had been two months that she had not read it because she could not find them. Losing a personal object is not particularly important; however, losing the habit of reading the Bible every day will mark your life completely. Do not allow that to happen, because it is through the knowledge of God that comes from reading the Bible that you get to know yourself and learn to make the most important decisions.
Today’s text from 2 Timothy 3:15 says «you have known.» Do not forget to read your Bible; do not allow a single day to go by without that basic spiritual food. There are three reasons why you should remember to do this:
The teachings of the Bible are the only source of true wisdom. Wouldn’t you like to be wise?
It is through the Bible that you can know Christ; therefore, confidence in Him is derived from it.
Finally, salvation is found in the knowledge of the Word, for it is the Word that gives witness of Christ our Savior.
May nothing and no one take you away from daily reading of the Bible so that you are not lost along the way—today or ever.
«From childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus» (2 Timothy 3:15).
