«But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in HIS wings» (Malachi 4:2).
Imagine that a rainy season occurs where you live. At first, it may seem exciting, especially if rain is scarce in your region; but think about the rainfall that persists for many days and the mists and darkness that are constantly present. The days go b alter and, with the inclement weather, despair and melancholy increase. Imagine that, a long period of time, rays of sunlight start to shine for the first time. Minutes later, your face is lightened by the brightness of the star and a whole series of psycho-physiological changes occur in your body as a consequence of the light.
Sunlight directly influences our mood as it stimulates the secretion of serotonin, a neurotransmitter released by the neurons in the central nervous system and whose deficit has been associated with depression and anxiety. This is why we have more joy and euphoria during the sunny days than grey and rainy days. The sun has a powerful influence over many functions of our body, including sleep and weight. Moreover, due to its supplement of vitamin D, it improves bone quality, increases muscular strength, tones and vitalizes the skin, stimulates blood circulation and reduces death risk. Exposing our body to sunlight for a few minutes a day during early morning and afternoon hours contribute to the absorption and release of these essential elements that bring life to the entire organism.
If the sun’s rays have the power to bring so much good to our body, can you imagine what the Sun of Righteousness can do to yourself? It is possible you passed through a cloud of difficulties or afflictions and they may be the cause of your despair and melancholy. But if you place yourself under the rays of Christ’s light, a whole series of psycho-physiological and spiritual changes will perform a complete transformation on your being.
The sun is beneficial to your health only if you absorb it every day by properly exposing yourself to its influence. Thus, if you locate yourself under God’s influence, you can obtain the greatest results. Unlike sunlight that usually depends on weather, we can come to Christ at all times so He can shine upon our heart. Remember the promise, «But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings”.
