‘He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds» (Psalm 147:3).
The healing of a wound is a biological process in which living tissues are repaired after an injury. Each wound varies depending on how serious it is and the overall health and habits of the individual. The process of regeneration has different phases which depend on wound size; others can even take more than a year to completely heal. There are also wounds for which healing time cannot be determined; some wounds never even heal. The wounds that are visible at first sight mostly correspond to lesions of the epithelial tissue and should be treated urgently to prevent infection.
However, there are wounds that and not treated immediately. They remain exposed, open and untreated so they give out a bad smell or are constantly oozing, sometimes even for years. Many of them cannot be seen by the naked eye because they are deep within the soul. Even if some of them were caused by others, the most complex ones are produced by us when we make mistakes and commit sins that destroy our dignity. We constantly suffer from the pain caused by these wounds. The prophet Isaiah says, «From the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in it, but wounds and bruises and putrefying sores; they have not been closed or bound up, or soothed with ointment» (Isa. 1:6).
Jesus, in His infinite love, saw these wounds in people’s hearts. Before treating the physical illness, He would relieve the spiritual one caused by sin by saying, «Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you” (Matt. 9:2). The Bible presents this type of health as being the most necessary and urgent among all the rest. The cure provided by heaven is available and powerful enough to heal the deepest wounds. The healing from our sins is possible thanks to the sacrifice of the immaculate Son of God. The Scripture says, «But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed» (Isa. 53:5).
Christ came to heal the wounds that sin left in our hearts. With unspeakable love, these kind words are also addressed to you, «Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you. “The cure has been provided. If you still cannot believe it, you must look at the Cross! His love will set your soul free from guilt and will grant you life and health.
