«With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles» (2 Chronicles 32:8).
IT WAS JUNE 2009; those were difficult days in Honduras. ‘The serious political situation caused never-ending days of uncertainty and moments of terror, confrontation, and chaos for the population. Groups of people began to burn buildings, buses, and everything they found in their path. Fear was triggered in some places of the country until, finally, everything seemed to have become calm. When we thought the danger had passed, the cruel reality hit us head-on.
It was a day like any other when my husband left the house to go to a meeting, taking our little daughter with him because she wanted to be with her dad. Everything had been apparently in order for a while, so nothing made us suspect what was going to happen. When they were coming back, my husband called to tell me that thousands of people had blocked the highway where they were. I felt like I was going to faint. My little girl was trapped!! I could not believe it. We knew by what had happened in the past that entire days could go by before that conflict in the streets would be resolved. Entire days without having my daughter with me!! I could not get my head around the idea. I felt deeply sad.
In that state of mind, I called my mother with a very special request:» Please, call all the church members in your prayer group and pray for my daughter and my husband; I am sure that the Lord will hear our prayers.» A short time later, my husband called to tell me how God had decided to respond to our prayer. My husband had spoken with some of the women who were demonstrating to let them know of the urgency he had to reach Tegucigalpa because of his small daughter. Those women spoke to the people who were leading the protests—the very leaders of that side of the dispute! —so they would allow them to pass by. The line of cars was very long, and everyone wanted to be allowed to go through, but those men said, «Only the car with the little girl goes through.»
That day, the Red Sea opened for me and my family. I know that God will also open it for you. Do not stop going to Him in prayer. «Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass» (Psalm 37:5).
