«The Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly» (Psalm 84: 11).
IT WAS the year 2010 in the city of Merliot, El Salvador. There were weeks filled with enthusiasm at Nazareth College. The students were preparing to take their university entrance exams. The memories of their youth that were created in those halls were about to be left behind. Many were hoping to be professionals, among them a young woman named Monik, who dreamed being a nurse.
Graduation day came; everyone had already chosen the university where they would study—all except Monik, since the admission exams for university she had chosen would be on Sabbath, and she understood very clearly the fourth biblical commandment: «Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy
In it you shall do no work» (Exodus 20:8—10). «If you love Me, keep My commandments» (John 14:15) was Jesus’s command. She did not intend to disobey it.
Monik explained to her parents her wish to change plans and study in a university that respected her beliefs: she had chosen the Adventist University in Costa Rica (UNADECA). She had exactly one week to certify’ her secondary diploma and get the required permits and student visa from the consulate, as well as enough cash. Too many things for so little time. In addition, devastated the area where her father worked, so he had little work that season. Little work meant little money. Everything indicated that it would not be possible for Monik to begin her nursing studies in January. Everything except God’s will and plans for her life. When it seemed to be a lost cause, a UNADECA employee traveled to where Monik lived and helped her with the whole process.
Thus began a new stage of her life.
This earnest, brave, but above all, Christian young woman graduated from the nursing program without having any money for it. God illuminated her path; God honored her as only He knows how to do. He wants to do the same thing for you: prosper those plans that you have and that agree with the values and principles of the gospel.
The Lord is your light and your salvation; whom should you fear? The Lord defends your life; of whom should you be afraid? (see Psalm 27:1).»But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings» (Malachi 4:2).
