«Do not eye the ruler’s delicacies, for the good may not be what it seems» (Proverbs 23:3).
«Food is deceiving!» said a man while looking me straight in the eyes. «Wherever you go, the food being sold is junk food.» That gentleman had changed his lifestyle after nearly dying. Now he was completely healthy. So his words made me think.
One of the human heart’s greatest enemies is sugar. Not too long ago, sugar was not as important a product as it is today. People used to put sugar in their tea or coffee. Likewise, sugar was used in cakes. But after World War Il, the sugar industry realized they could manufacture sweets that could be eaten between meals. Manufacturers realized people liked sweet products. By mixing fat and sugar, in addition to a pinch of salt, they had the perfect recipe, because everyone loved it. Today, almost all foods have sugar. It’s found in many beverages and meals that are eaten regularly. Eighty percent of the sugar we eat is hidden in many foods that are considered part of the daily diet: processed cereals, jam, bread, yoghurt, condensed milk or pre-cooked meals.
In addition, commercials try to convince us that sugar is a symbol of happiness. The joy on the faces of people who drink beverages, eat candy, ice cream, cookies, cupcakes or pies is enviable. However, sugar is an authentic drug that causes as much addiction as alcohol and tobacco. Today, doctors are alarmed by the problem. Not too long ago it was believed that sugar only produced cavities, but today it is identified as a serious cause of obesity. However, the power the sugar industry has acquired allows it to sponsor research that minimizes the terrible effects of sugar consumption.
Our passage through this world is very brief. That’s why it’s essential for us to take care of the health the Lord has given us. Having a lifestyle that will destroy our well-being isn’t worth the risk. Don’t pay attention to the messages in commercials that try to convince you that you’ll be happier by eating irresponsibly. It’s deceitful. the today to help you have a healthy lifestyle.
