«And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart» (Jeremiah 29:13).
BLANCA AND INDALECIO had six children. The oldest, Heriberto, was barely thirteen years old when he began to rebel against everything and everyone. Disillusioned with life, he distanced himself further and further away from his parents, who advised him to give up his bad friendships. He, however, decided to leave them: he secretly collected his things and left the house. Days, months, and years passed, and those parents did nothing but grieve the absence of their son. Seven years of anguish went by in which Heriberto’s parents, as well as their fellow church members, did not stop raising their prayers to the God of heaven, begging Him to be able to find the youth who, by that time, was already a twenty-year-old man. One day, someone arrived with news of his whereabouts: Corcovado, in Costa Rica.
Indalecio, the father, traveled there to find that lost son for whom they had prayed so much, with the conviction that he would find him. He went deep into the Osa Peninsula, an area of thick woods, since they had told him that his son, whom they called «the widowed cat,» had died on the mountain. The constant faith and prayers of that family kept Indalecio strong and hopeful. His diffcult search took eight days in coming to fruition.
Indalecio’s experience in searching for his son Heriberto makes me reflect on how little we seek God in spite of the fact that He is always seeking us. «For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: ‘Seek Me and live»‘ (Amos 5:4). That is what He tells you and me this morning and all the other mornings of the rest of our lives. Let us seek Him with all our hearts so that we may enjoy the type of life that He wants to give us.
‘The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you» (2 Chronicles 15:2). And that, for me, is simply unacceptable. I cannot not imagine a life without the presence of God.
Dear friend, if you are a prodigal daughter who decided some time ago to flee from the presence of the Father, I say to you this morning: «Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face evermore!» (1 Chronicles 16:11) because life is very different with Him.
