«Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses» (Psalm 107:19).
A FRIEND TOLD ME something simple (and at the same time, so great) about the love of God and His care that I thought it would be interesting to share it with you this morning. His situation was the following: he was so poor that he did not have money at that time to buy a washing machine, which he needed to be able to wash his daughter’s clothes. before, he knelt down, and fervently said to God, «Father, you know that I don’t want to go more in debt, but I need a washer and a dryer; please send them to me. Amen.’
He immediately began the job of looking in the classified ads in the newspaper. Suddenly, he could not believe what his eyes were seeing: «For sale. Washing machine for $50.00. Please call e» What? A washer is being sold for 50 dollars? That seemed to be the direct answer from God to his prayers.
He made the usual phone call and went to the place that had been indicated. The home obviously belonged to very wealthy people, but that did not stop him. When he gave the 50 dollars, they were asking for the washing machine (which, by the way, was like new), the lady who attending to him said, «Wait. If you take the washer, you have to take the dryer, as well.»
»The dryer?’ he asked. «The ad didn’t say anything about a dryer. May I ask how much it costs?’
«Nothing,» was the incredible reply of the owner. ‘The dryer is free with the purchase of the washer.»
That is our God: A Father of love who supplies our needs, whether they are big or small. We see it in our lives and it is repeated for us constantly throughout the Holy Scriptures: «And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus» (Philippians 4:19). «Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?» (Matthew 6:26). Yes, of course you are worth much more than they are, my friend, and that is why God is looking after all that you need.
God has said, «I will never leave you nor forsake you» (Hebrews 13:5). It is time for us to begin to believe that He is like that and live according to that belief.
